In the ongoing work for social justice and true equity, ending the HIV epidemic in the United States is our chosen role.
We’ve seen firsthand how the intersectionality of social injustice, discrimination and health care disparity impacts those of us living with HIV, and we believe alleviating this struggle is a pivotal step toward our national well-being.
NASTAD is a leading non-partisan non-profit association that represents public health officials who administer HIV and hepatitis programs in the U.S. We work to advance the health and dignity of people living with and impacted by HIV/AIDS, viral hepatitis, and intersecting epidemics by strengthening governmental public health through advocacy, capacity building, and social justice.

Medication for Assisted Treatment (MAT) Services
The safe and proven medications we prescribe greatly reduce or eliminate withdrawal symptoms and cravings to greatly improve your treatment success. Alcohol, prescription pain medication, narcotics, and other abused drugs overwhelm the brain’s motivational system, producing a strong craving that drives addiction. This neurological imbalance can be corrected through medication therapy and counseling.
FDA-approved drugs such as Suboxone® (buprenorphine) relieve withdrawal symptoms, while Vivitrol®, ReVia® (naltrexone), and Campral® (acamprosate) control cravings.
Other promising medications include Zofran® (ondansetron), Topamax® (topiramate), and Antabuse® (disulfiram). These treatments are non-mood altering, non-addictive, and have few side effects.
When you are relieved from physical discomforts, you can focus on relapse-prevention therapy, counseling, and long-term recovery. Best of all, you can undertake this treatment in our outpatient treatment program and continue your daily life with few interruptions. Anti-craving medications can generally be taken along with treatments for mental health issues, such as anxiety, depression, high stress, and post-traumatic stress disorder, which often occur along with addictive disorders.
